401(a) - Exclusive Benefit Plan
A 401(a) Exclusive Benefit Plan is an employer funded retirement account. Contributions are made by the employer only. The maximum annual contribution can be as much as 25% of salary or $41,000, whichever is less. Government organizations benefit from the exemption of the nondiscrimination requirements of the Internal Revenue Code, Section 401(a).
403(b) - Tax-Deferred Plan
A 403(b) Tax-Deferred Plan is for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations and public school systems. Employees can contribute up to 100% of salary to a maximum limit of $13,000 annually. Employer contributions are allowed with a maximum combined contribution up to 25% of compensation not to exceed $41,000 annually.
457(b) - Deferred Compensation Plan
A 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan is for employees of municipalities and government entities. The maximum annual contribution to the plan is up to 100% of gross salary or $13,000, whichever is less. A special catch-up provision allows employees nearing retirement to contribute up to $24,000 annually.
